Specialised Psychosocial Centres for Refugees within the nexus of asylum, integration, and health policy (March 2026 – December 2026)
In Germany, specialised psychosocial centres for refugees (PSCs) are key actors in the provision of care for refugees experiencing mental health problems. As multiprofessional organisations, they offer psychosocial counselling, psychotherapy, and a range of additional support services. However, their predominantly project-based funding is insecure and limits their capacity.
The 2025 coalition agreement announces continued support for PSCs but leaves open how this support will be designed in the future.
The project analyses the role of PSCs within the nexus of asylum, integration, and health policy, as well as the resulting challenges regarding funding, responsibilities, and coordination. It aims to provide a concise assessment of the PSC’s place within the existing care system and to identify starting points for a clearer structural anchoring.
The findings will be published in a brief report in the fourth quarter of 2026.
